Katie Lopez-Cope, LMSW

She/Her

Growing up in various small towns of the rural South meant that I learned early on what it felt like to live in an environment where mental health and identity exploration were hardly talked about. Without a roadmap or guidance to lean on, I found safe havens inside fictional worlds and my own small pockets of community (lookin’ at you, fellow queer band kids). What started as forms of escapism quickly turned into spaces for authentic reflection and genuine Connection.

These experiences deeply shaped my path towards diving into social work and ultimately, becoming a therapist. They sparked the desire to build a compassionate, accepting space that I so often looked for growing up. As a late-diagnosed neurodivergent queer person, I integrate my personal and professional experiences into cultivating a collaborative environment where clients can safely explore all facets of their identity, unravel old patterns, and feel genuinely seen. I believe therapy is a shared journey, and I aim to show up to each session with warmth, curiosity, and deep empathy.

When I’m not wearing my therapist hat, you can find me exploring any local hidden gems (particularly a good thrift store or café), spending time with my rescue pups, or diving into whichever gaming, tabletop, or book fantasy world that has caught my attention lately.

Katie's Approach & Mission

As a relational therapist, I use a person-centered approach and believe that the relationship between therapist and client is the strongest tool in therapy. I recognize every client is unique in their needs and it is my goal to collaborate with each client to find the approach that works best for them. I draw upon a blend of attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic practices including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

I use gentle curiosity, empathy, some humor, and occasional appropriate self-disclosure to help clients feel safe expressing their authentic selves with Clarity. I welcome any way for each individual to feel comfortable in my sessions, whether it’s bringing in a comfort iced coffee, listening to a song that resonates with them, or relating to a favorite video game, movie, or show.

In my tabletop roleplay therapy groups, I utilize play and narrative therapy to provide a safe, affirming space for players to explore self-reflection, build self-Compassion, and practice navigating scenarios with their full unmasked selves.

I have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ folks as well as neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, AuDHD) individuals (often an intersection of both!). I have experience and training in navigating complex trauma, attachment and relational wounds, anxiety, and depression.
